I do it for a couple of reasons: 1.To stop people knowing who they are bidding against[this may sound bad but if it stops people bidding then as a seller it is bad for me] 2.To stop all the people emailing bidders offering them the same item cheaper - this is happening more and more as the Ebay fees start to mount up. I think the best way for it to be done would be for the auction to be private until all bidding had finished and the second chance offers had been so maybe a week and then after 7 days let the bidding be made public.
