Hi guys

I saw about 25 Monster bookof monster cards at the weekend and I am convinced if I stacked them up they'd be as tall as me.

I am wondering how you are all storing them, I have heard that they do thicker toploaders, is it a thick toploader that's needed or a super thick one? And do you leave it to rattle around in there or is it also possible to get super thick penny sleeves too?

Sounds like you need some of those Pro Mold PC-18's I was going on about for my LOTR costumes Roz.
Mind you, I haven't actually seen how thick the cards are which you're talking about ....

We never have any decent storage stuff here in the UK ... completely hopeless for the most part, especially when you want something a little bit different! :-\

Do you have a pic of a card you could post please Roz and maybe give a measurement on just how thick they are so that ppl know what to be on the look-out for?

I ordered a pack of 10 5mm and a pack of 10 7mm top loaders from an ebay seller this past week.  I haven't received them yet, but I'm hoping they do the trick for the Ron and Hermione's Sweater Cards as well as the Grim Fur.  

Is the Book of Monsters Card any thicker than those 3 cards?

What I have done in the past is sleeve the extra thick card, sandwich it between 2 regular top loaders, slide it all into a team bag and seal it.  That seems to protect the card well and it doesn't slide around at all as long as you aren't tossing it across the room or anything.

On another note, I received some cards in a trade this week that were slid in to a top loader that you could have easily put 2 Grim Fur cards in.  That thing was nasty thick!  I have never seen a card that would require that think of a top loader.

Yep - pretty huge, I am not sure it will fit in a penny sleeve inside the toploader... that's what I am worried about!

If I can find sleeves and toploaders we should take card and make it 1/4 page size with a hole in it the size of the toploader, and then put them in our binders in 4 pocket pages (almost like it's framed).

Now, everybody, I can supply the 4 pocket pages as I found some in the UK at the weekend so everyone is welcome to a couple of those for their collection... we just need the rest of out "ingredients"...

Shall we all pull together? Because we will have to buy a pack of 25-50 toploaders etc and so we'll all end up with far too many spare supplies.

So what we need is:

Ultra Pro 4 pocket pages
Acid Free Penny Sleeves
Toploaders of adequate thickness
Card (although we may do this bit alone unless someone finds a brill source:))

P.S I think the card is 45mm (ish) thick. I know that this seems to be the wrong units to give to people in the USA however I have a sneaking feeling that your inches are not the same as our inches. I know your Gallon isn't and I have been hearing you work on (what we call in the UK) Nautical Miles... so mm seemed at least a little less complicated.

Wow.  That Book of Monsters card is significantly thicker than the Ron Sweater.  If anyone wants to donate their BOM card to me, I'll volunteer to see if I can find a sleeve big enough and see if the super extra thick top loaders I ordered are wide enough.   ;)

On a side note, the U.S. should have made a huge push to adopt the SI system of units a long time ago.  I mean unit conversions are SO MUCH easier in SI.  Would have made my engineering coursework alot more friendly.  Anyone here know what a measurement in slugs or stones represents?  I can't remember either.

Or as an alternative - DewDude's original idea sounds good two normal sized toploaders sandwiching the card in a penny sleeve and then into a team bag (which I am assuming is a sticky sealed cellophane bag!

I know of a place that sells screw down card holders that are up to 130 points thick.  Don't know what that means though.  I have my Hermione jumper in one and it seems to just fit.

Nienna's idea is the best, the Pro-Mold PC-18 screwdowns handle to 120 pt thick cards.  I have a Hermione Scarf/Sweater costume in one and it is just fine.

lol guys - this card is 2/3 as thick again as a Hermione or Ron jumper card!

We need at least a 200pt thick card holder... do they make them?

Roz, Pro-Mold does a lot of these screw down holders.  Why don't you locate their websiter and email them to see if they make ones that hold 200 pts.  I think Ultra Pro is another Brand.  It wouldn't hurt to try.

... It's only a suggestion and I'm not volunteering anyone it's just I know how hard these cases are to get! :-\

I finally received my Book of Monsters card.  That is one thick card!  I can now say for sure that the 5mm Collector Safe Top Loaders I purchased from a seller on ebay accomodate the card perfectly.  The tricky part will be finding a sleeve to put the card in first.  A long time ago I purchased a pack of sleeves that seemed to be larger than the standard sleeves.  I don't think they were specially manufactured to be larger, I just think that was the size this particular manufacturer made them.  I found on in my pile of old sleeves and the Mosnters card fits perfectly.  I wish I knew what manufacturer made them, but unfortunately I don't.

Ultra-pro carry some very thick screwdowns that are 1/2 inch. I don't know the imperial system but I think that is 12mm in the metric system.

DewDude, you might want to reconsider using those slightly larger sleeves.  I found some like that when I was cleaning out my mid-80s to early 90s baseball card collection, and the sleeves are not archival quality.
