Wow it stopped at $375, about £200!

Hmm! All of the autos in the set are probably worth that each (well not Saruman but all the others are way above that marker) but it may very well not have an auto in  :-\

Insanity - why don't you just BUY the card and know what you are getting for certain? Apart from Merry, the other 3 are probably at that price (or less for Saruman as you pointed out). I don't think card prices will go any higher and thus this box is not going to be worth opening/selling. If you are buying auto cards now, it should be for the love of collecting them or memorabilia's sake, not to turn around and make a quick buck, cos you are not going to have much luck :)

Feel free to disagree though!

Gee:

This is only the Retail box with 24 packs and the odds of an insert in those was 1 in 72 packs so you are not even sure an Auto card is in there to begin with!  No way would I ever buy one with those odds!

lol I know what you mean Ed!

Whilst I'd love to have an Elrond (although how long I would own it before FTY decided it was high time she came to England to relieve me of it I am not sure). I think it's probably a lot more fun opening a Trilogy box ;) three inserts a box... or 1/3 of an insert per box... ooh it's a toughie.

LOL I know - high risk, high value, high stakes but Trilogy is still a fun set - well at least if you don't have master sets of the preceeding LOTR Topps cards

How rude ;)

I agree that Trilogy would a whole lot of a better set to open, getting excited 3 times a box is a whole lot better than spending $350 and getting nothing. Or buying 3 PoA update boxes and not getting anything much as well :P I was turned off Trilogy because of the poor signing list, but then I realised it a pretty cool looking and very affordable set. I won't buy any boxes as I have already separately bought the cards I need, but if i hadn't, I'd definitely go for it!

I bid on this auction. My reasoning was to get a sealed box with no plans to open it. I am fully aware of the odds to find an auto inside....1/3 have an auto....1/41+ have a Merry. If the winner has any dreams of finding a Merry, they would need to be extremely lucky..........or simply do not understand odds. I wish them some luck but not too much.....I am still FOTR Merry-less.

Well 2 but I might sell one at the weekend ;)

By proportion of what I originally had I have more left than you do :P ;)
