This is a question I have had for a long time.  Why is there such a difference in the final prices (and many starting prices I might add) for the same item when one is in US dollars and one is in British pounds?  A US auction for a Mark Hamill autograph will close for $1500US while a UK auction for the same cards will close for the equivalent of $2300US in pounds.  Is it due to the cost of shipping between the countries?  I could understand that reason for heavy items like full cases, but what about single cards?  I can send one card well protected in a padded envelope to the UK for less than $2.00.  Is it a factor of declared value and customs charges at that point?

I should start listing my auctions in GBP so I can make 20% to 30% more on my stuff.  :-)

I think the main reason is on high priced cards you need to have them sent insured and this means disclosing the full price for customs. That then means 20% roughly in custom charges so you may as well pay that to a UK sell rather than to customs.
