: To Dan Brown Fans... : Roz November 16, 2004, 06:17:40 PM :o
Don't you just wish you had had this copy to read the first time through?? (https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/P/0593054253.02.MZZZZZZZ.jpg) (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0593054253/theyakshack-21) It's not illustrated with pictures of our heroes (thank goodness) but rather with the pictures of the churches and paintings they refer to as you are taken through the story!!! I so want this *hint hint Mark Christmas hint hint* But I can't see it available for sale in the US - if anyone can find a link then please do post it here for the US fans, or you can have them sent to me and I'll send them on ;) However, I am dying to read Angels and Demons next and it looks like they are publishing an illustrated version of that one in the States... (not the UK yet - this is all topsey turvey) ... and not until May 2005 (https://images-eu.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/P/0552150738.02.MZZZZZZZ.jpg) (http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0743275063/theyakshack-21) So alas, since the second one is not yet published... I will have to read the normal one and trawl the net for the pictures :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak November 16, 2004, 06:48:46 PM I can't wait until they do the illustrated Angels and Demons edition - while I love both books, I may be leaning ever-so-slightly to Angels and Demons, but it's a very fine balance! Lets hope if they end up doing the movie(s), they do it justice! Though some scenes for Angels and Demons might be difficult to shoot - all the Vatican scenes and especially the site of the grande finale! I won't spoil the end, but when you read it you will know what I mean! Da Vinci Code might be tricky as well :)
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : olly November 16, 2004, 07:11:53 PM I so want this *hint hint Mark Christmas hint hint* So subtle!! ;D ;D ;D I bet Mark misses it though...I think he is busy today playing his new toy! : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Roz November 16, 2004, 07:20:00 PM I think he is busy today playing his new toy! Half Life 2! For those of you who haven't bought it - it sounds like you should... it's not my bag so much as I am no good at that sort of game but the graphics look phenomenal - even the water don't look half bad! Now back to Mr Brown :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak November 16, 2004, 07:26:58 PM Yes! Drools... FTY has found another 'my most favourite author ever!' candidate ;D Seriously - we should ask Ed nicely to camp out the front of his place and get a few signed copies - he lives round there, right ;)
Pretty please Ed? ;D : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 November 16, 2004, 10:48:32 PM Hi FTY:
Dan lives down in the southern part of New Hampshire. If I see him making any appearances to have books signed I will be there for all of us rest assurred! :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Roz November 16, 2004, 10:50:01 PM Has he done an appearance yet?... has he done an appearance yet?... has he done an appearance yet?...has he done an appearance yet?...has he done an appearance yet?...has he done an appearance yet?...has he done an appearance yet?...has he done an appearance yet?...has he done an appearance yet?...has he done an appearance yet?...has he done an appearance yet?...has he done an appearance yet?...has he done an appearance yet?...
Ahem - sorry I am not the patient type :P : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 November 16, 2004, 10:56:14 PM Yes he has done an appearance once to my knowlege here in New Hampshire about 6 months ago. Unfortunately that was before any of you had read his books!
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Roz November 16, 2004, 11:24:15 PM Go on Ed, please feel free to rub it in... salt ...on wound - right there - OWCH!
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 November 17, 2004, 08:35:37 AM Hey Roz:
Don't worry as I am in the same boat as you folks are - I did not even think to get his autograph! :-[ : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak November 17, 2004, 09:17:44 AM It appears that Tom Hanks is the favourite to play Robert Langdon in the Da Vinci Code movie
http://entertainment.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4459,11402234%255E10431%255E%255Enbv,00.html (http://entertainment.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,4459,11402234%255E10431%255E%255Enbv,00.html) I can see it! :D But there are other actors I think that could do it quite well also - what do you guys think? : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 November 17, 2004, 08:43:33 PM Hi FTY:
Thanks for posting the link as this is the first news I have heard that The DiVinci Code is going to be made into a movie!! Yea!! 8) Tom Hanks is a good choice but I agree that there are many other actors who can portray Robert Langdon. I like Russel Crowe, Tom Cruise, George Clooney, Harrison Ford, Hugh Jackman, and even Viggo Mortensen! :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak November 17, 2004, 08:48:14 PM I agree - I would love to see Hugh Jackman do it! George Clooney would be good as well :)
If they start filming next year, what do you think a probable release date would be? Late 2005? Early 2006? ??? Imagine if they did a movie of Angels and Demons! That would be very difficult to do - the grand finale especially - you know what I mean Ed :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 November 17, 2004, 09:14:15 PM Hi FTY:
I think the film will be out depending when they start filming either during the Holiday season from November 2005 or again the Holiday season in 2006. That is my guess. Well as you know FTK amazing things can now be done with computer graphics so if enough energy and thought went into it I think it could be accopmlished. Imagine the publicity for the Vatican if they allowed some discreet filming to be done there! :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak November 17, 2004, 09:32:16 PM But do you think they would though? Most of those places are highly sacred - only the Pope is allowed access to some! :o
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 November 17, 2004, 09:45:50 PM The areas that are sacred and specific to the Pope - no I do not think any filming would be allowed there - that is where the special effects, models, and computer graphics come in a la Weta! :)
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak November 18, 2004, 05:41:46 AM But how would they know what it looks like? I think they might change those areas - nothing a little plot tweak couldn't take care of!
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 November 18, 2004, 07:11:31 AM FTY:
You would be amazed what satellite photos reveal and they are available commercially. I do not think a film studio would have any problems obtaining the layout needed. I don't know if you saw my post on the Secret Santa thread but Roz is reading Angels & Demons as I type this. Mark surprised her tonight with Dan Brown's 4 pack of books so I won't be surprised if she does not get any sleep tonight! :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak November 18, 2004, 08:29:30 AM I mean INSIDE the Vatican :) (must... resist...urge to reveal... end of story - Roz would kill usss!)
We shall see! :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 November 18, 2004, 05:41:50 PM I don't see Roz online yet - very untypical of her! I wonder what she is doing? Reading perhaps!! ;) Did not get a wink of sleep perhaps!! ;)
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak December 07, 2004, 04:55:02 PM Oooh - I popped into my university bookshop to pick up a copy of Deception Point and gues what was on the shelf next to it?
The illustrated Da Vinci Code! :o (I would have started reading if the irate shopkeeper didn't keep harassing me :P) I'm still hanging out for the illustrated Angels and Demons edition though :) There were also all the 'unravelling the Da Vinci Code' and 'Exposing the myth' books as well - they will be interesting to read, basically they try to expose Dan Brown and is reseach on the books as fraud Hmmm.... :-\ I'm intrigued to hear what they have to say, as obviously the ideas that he has in his books are pretty controversial and there are always 2 sides of the story :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 December 07, 2004, 05:02:37 PM Those books do sound interesting FTY. :) I went to my local library yesterday afternoon to return a book when I saw a copy of Angels & Demons on CD. I took it out and it has 16 CD's and is the unabridged reading of the book! :) I will be listening to this one for the next several weeks!! :)
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Trey December 08, 2004, 04:55:57 AM Ok so I have finished reading both Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code......
Is it horrible to say that I actually liked Angels & Demons better than The DV code? I found A&D a lot more interesting and action-packed...I dont know why The DV Code is more popular really...........even though it was a great story too, I just liked A&D better, and I loved Vittoria in A&D as opposed to Sophie, she was just more likable.... ::) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Roz December 08, 2004, 05:10:24 AM lol
*fisticuffs out* I found Sophie easier to empathise with :) But I admit I read the Da Vinchi Code first... I wonder if this skews your thoughts - because FTY likes A&D more and she read that one first too! Well if you are all ready for a rumble, see what one of Mark's ex-colleagues made of Dan Brown... http://www.qwghlm.co.uk/ (Mark's commented in the comments section) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 December 08, 2004, 05:27:00 AM I agree with Trey and FTY as I too loved Angels & Demons. I like it much better than the Code. In fact I read The DaVinci Code first and enjoyed it and saw on the inside cover what other books Dan wrote. I saw that Angels & Demons was the first book with the character Robert Langdon so I had to get it and after reading both I agree that A&D's should have received more credit. :)
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Roz December 08, 2004, 05:29:34 AM Oh well fine it's just me and my Mum in a small Da Vinchi adoration club on our own!
Look we have Da Vinchi Club badges and you can't have any ;) ROFL! I have done my best to ensure a lot of people on the forum have had badges but I know some of you haven't got them yet! APOLOGIES! : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak December 08, 2004, 05:40:07 AM a Vinchi Code first... I wonder if this skews your thoughts - because FTY likes A&D more and she read that one first too! Just! Only just! It's a close call. I read A&D first as recommended by Ed and I'm glad I did, but I don't thik that it would have skewed my opinions on the books no matter which order I read them in. Both of them are fantastic, but IMO Angels and Demons just pips Da Vinci Code at the post :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Trey December 08, 2004, 06:14:26 AM Badges, what badges........im always in for a good badge........ 8)
Don't get me wrong, I did like the Da Vinci Code too and I found myself researching Da Vinci's 'The Last Supper' and looking for certain...erm people, and hand gestures (I dont want to give much away for those who havent read it) but I just thought A&D was soo much more interesting and there were quite a few twists at the end too, not to mention the four 'quests' throughout the book... Sorry Roz :-\ : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Roz December 08, 2004, 06:17:05 AM Oh don't get me wrong - it's amazing, marvellous, fantastic - I just have fonder memories of the Da Vinchi Code :)
It was the first one I read... what can I say? :D : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 December 09, 2004, 05:23:20 AM Roz:
You can say you are a Cambridge Scholar!! :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Trey December 09, 2004, 07:46:19 AM I have started Deception Point today....I only read on the train to and from work so I dont know when I will have it finished but I will post my thoughts again and see if anyone else agrees with me ( I will try not to stur things up!)
Does anyone know if Dan Brown is going to write another book continuing on with the character of Robert Langdon?? : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 December 09, 2004, 08:50:51 AM Hi Trey:
I do not know for sure but I would have to say yes with the popularity of both Angels & Demons and The DaVinci Code. :) I for one hope so! :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak December 09, 2004, 02:32:03 PM Hey Trey - I started on Deception Point myself last night and I am about halfway through and hopefully finishing it tonight :)
Fingers crossed for another Robert Langson appearance! :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Roz December 09, 2004, 04:25:59 PM Oh yes, Langdon is definitely out for another appearance.
With ANOTHER secret society apparently :) (at this rate he'll run out soon) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 December 09, 2004, 06:23:47 PM Roz:
Don't you folks at Cambridge have your own Secret Society he can delve into? :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Roz December 09, 2004, 08:16:52 PM It's funny that you should mention that actually Ed.
I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you :P but suffice it to say - there is something out there ;) but we won't be allowing Brown a glimpse of it - or he'll write them as anti Catholic mad scientists :P : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 December 10, 2004, 05:52:18 PM Roz:
It sounds like you work at CERN!!! ;) Trey & FTY: How is Dan's other books you are reading? : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak December 10, 2004, 08:27:13 PM Just finished Deception Point... I highly recommend it to all!
To everyone - if you liked Da Vinci Code, consider getting all the Dan Brown books - they are all brilliant! : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 December 11, 2004, 08:35:13 PM Hi FTY:
Thanks for the positive review of Dan's other works. I will pick them up when I can. :) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak December 11, 2004, 08:57:27 PM Hey Ed, let us all know what you think of them!
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Trey December 12, 2004, 04:49:11 AM I am not too far into deception point but I must say, I am really liking this one already :D
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Roz December 16, 2004, 09:59:44 PM Trey
have you finished it? If so: 25-6-32-36-25-1-25-10-68-51-126-112-10-32-25-1 : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : savage727 December 16, 2004, 11:28:08 PM Uh Oh Roz is passing some kind of code!! I better get my copy and start reading!! ;)
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Trey December 17, 2004, 04:41:34 AM Trey have you finished it? If so: 25-6-32-36-25-1-25-10-68-51-126-112-10-32-25-1 Hey?? Whats that got to do with Deception Point? Are u confusing it with Digital Fortress? I am RIGHT near the end of Deception Point and it is GOOOOOD...I really just want to finish it but I cant (im at work :( ) : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Roz December 17, 2004, 04:49:08 AM Ahh sorry I thought you were reading DF :-\
Keep going! How''s DP, I'm moving onto that one ASAP : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Trey December 17, 2004, 04:52:21 AM DP is quite good, and not like the last couple I have read (DVC and A&D) less simbology stuff but still twists in the story and a good read, but I am reaching the end and it is all hitting a climax so it could prove to be fantastic or a little disappointing...something tells me though that it might be quite good!
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : ferdinand_the_yak December 17, 2004, 06:06:40 PM Without any spoilers - it is quite good :)
: Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Trey December 20, 2004, 04:20:30 AM Well I finished Deception Point and I have to say that I thought it was another Dan Brown hit :) Characters were very likeable, and the storyline was excellent and kept you intrigued until the very end!! The ending was good and you got all the answers to your questions at the end. Great twists, I loved it!!
I am going to start Digital Fortress soon... ;D : Re:To Dan Brown Fans... : Trey December 29, 2004, 06:09:58 AM Well I have finished Digital Fortress and I have to say, it is my least favourite out of the four. Im not saying it was bad, but it wasn't as exciting or intriguing as the last three I have read.
The characters of Susan and David are great, they connect with the audience a lot but I just found it a bit dull. David's adventure was good but it dragged a bit with the whole story being in the NSA.......hmm well that is just my opinion but I still liked it all the same.....and what the hell is that code at the end? I was lost there.... |
