I just saw that story when I logged on AOL. I guess this makes him a "serious" actor now! I don't think Disney will cut him out of other films for it. He's already got 4 HP films done or being made, so I think as long as he looks the part he'll continue to be Harry. Disney has too much invested in the series to chuck him out now. As far as ticket sales, it might mean increased sales for curious older teen and younger 20's girls, but probably not for the mature women on this forum. That's why there aren't many nudie mags for women, looking at a nude package just isn't all that thrilling for us. Or maybe I should just be speaking for myself?

Just wait. Fangirls will use their cell phones or try to sneak cameras into the theater to take pictures and put them on the internet.

The more I think about this, the more it bothers me. I don't know theater very much, but why would someone take on this kind of a role? Especially when their career is rockin!!! Or is it the "mother" side of me thats taking over? I don't know!

I think he wants to be taken more seriously as an actor. Personally, I wouldn't want my child to take a role like that.

I'm sorry, but someone doesn't to take on a role like that to be taken seriously!! But of course, this is just my opinion! I wouldn't let my boys do anything like that either!

I remember that both his parents are theatre people, so that may have something to do with it? It sounds interesting...

I guess, it will be possible to bring this on stage without a really "shocking" scene. I think, they'lll find a harmless way and there won't be much more nudity than in GoF's bathroom.

There's nothing nice about that particular play - I recall the furore when it was first staged many MANY moons ago and I wouldn't see it on principle no matter who was playing whichever part. (Off the top of my head .. I believe Peter Schaffer wrote it and I think Richard Burton acted in it?) They could sign up Orli, Cap'n Jack, Elijah Wood for that part and I still wouldn't go. Yes you're right Jo, his parents are indeed theatrical folk - wasn't Dan originally talent-spotted when he was attending a play with them, long before he got the role? I don't deny that he needs to try his hand at more mature material ... it will prove to us all whether the lad can act or not and I think he'll find he's got a LOT to learn when it comes to stage work as opposed films - you get one shot at it per night and no edits .... we'll see ... Thomas .... I very much doubt they'll tone down the nudity to the fairly harmless levels we saw in the Prefect's bathroom, it's just not that kind of play I'm afraid. Whoever advised him to accept this role didn't do their job very well IMHO ...

Now this is a surprise. The boy's only 17. I don't get the need to play a part that (IMHO) is not worth it just to prove he's not a kid anymore or that he can do more than just Potter.
I used to work with a Spanish theatre group and you just have to be cut for that. Standing there with a thousand people watching you, no cuts, no edits, you learn to improvise but even then it's not easy. There's so much pressure on you it can get you sick and you need a lot of time (and that's why i left). He does have talent but like Nienna said, he has a lot to learn.
He has Potter written on his forehead and it will probably stay that way for a while (look at Elijah/Frodo) and even if he gets tired of being recognized only by his character name he should feel proud of it and take on roles that are good enough to make the people talk about him in a good way.
No idea of who's giving him advice but that's not a good way to start his out-of-Potter career. If he wants to surprise/shock people and make everyone see him as a mature actor it would be wise to wait and do something a la Heath Ledger/Jake G and win an Oscar or 2 at that.

If he wants to prove himself why not a bit of Shakespeare, no clothes loosing in that unless, there's a strange naked Shakespeare group which there probably is somewhere

I guess the controversy makes for good publicity (not that he needs it)

I don't think it would put his Potter role in jeopardy. Clemence Poesy appeared topless in the film "Welcome to the Roses" 2 years before her part as Fleur and that didn't stop the producers casting her.
