I'm not too much into love stories, but the Civil War era of the movie made me curious so I gave it a shot.  I'm glad I did, because I really loved it!  It stars Nicole Kidman, Jude Law, Renee Zelweger and Brendan Gleeson.  I had no idea Brendan Gleeson was in the movie until I saw him!  What a shock!  It's Mad Eye Moody!!!    Seriously though, even though it was a bit weird for me to see 2 Englishmen and an Aussie playing Southerners, it was well worth watching.  All 3 did a wonderfull job with the accents.  I only heard Gleeson and Law's accent break though slightly a couple of times, but I was listening for it.    Kidman's role was perfect and Renee Zelweger was just AMAZING!  No wonder she won best supporting actress.  If you haven't seen it, try it.

It wasn't really my cup of tea, but I could see how others would like it alot.  It wasn't a waste of my time by any means so I would say check it out if you haven't seen it you might like it.

Another movie that I really liked with Mad Eye Moodie in it is Gangs of New York.  I resisted prompts to see this movie because I really don't like Leo Decaprio much and not a huge Cameroon Diaz fan (although she is OK, I really liked her in In Her Shoes with Toni Colleti (SP?) which just came out on DVD).  Anyway I really loved Gangs of New York, and the fact that it has a historical basis made it even better for me.

It's a long time since I saw it but Renee is a sheer genius in everything she does, and I remember enjoying it very very heart stretching and pulling stuff tho

I totally forgot that Gleason was in Gangs of New York!  I loved that movie too, mostly for the historical aspect.  I bet most people in America have no idea about the early history of NYC, or the volunteer fire dept. for that matter!

Yes the aspect of Gangs of New York I found the most interesting was those who considered themselves "native Americans" were really the English and they looked down on the Irish and others.  I really had no idea about this aspect of the history of NY
