LOST Theories *spoilers*

I'm still watching the first season on DVD so I don't know all the twists yet, but from last nights show I think:
That entering numbers into the computer is NOT to stop a doomsday device or biological weapon or any other thing that may destroy them. If you remember on the film it said that there was an "incident", and so now numbers must be entered within the time limit to restart the clock. Well, what if that's just some sort of safety device to make sure whoever is in the bunker is OK? If you enter the numbers, you're broadcasting that you're fine. If you DON'T enter the numbers someone will know there's a problem and come rescue you. Perhaps that's why Locke was so adamant about fixing the computer. I think he wants to stay on the island.
