Ooh no! Definitely not retail TT and ROTK, after all there was nothing different in them!

Besides Jo, if you buy FOTR FOTRU, TT, TTU and the others does that just add to the temptation to open them all... or are you "archiving" Wink?

Actually, I think the more I get, the less likely I would be to open them because I know it would be near impossible to get more sealed ones especially FOTR retail - how many of THOSE have we seen for sale recently? With a partial set, I would be thinking - well, I ain't going to get the rest - it's either sell or open!

I would love to archive, but that is for completists like Jas - I would be too tempted to open them to add to my collection - for a completist, opening a box won't get them something they haven't got already!

I have learned that I cannot have sealed, unopened boxes in my house. They call to me, demanding to be opened and eventually I succumb. It's a weakness, I know, but it's so much fun to open them!

I was just saying open it, I opened all mine, imagine if there is a gimli and gandalf auto in there.. how would you feel buying one of each then having a box with them Tongue

Box prices are dropping I lost a box when I wasnt home for 200.. thats alot cheaper then the sandandy prices of 3-500 a while ago Smiley

I would just say open it try your luck have a blast opening it and see whatya get, when I had sealed boxes I needed one more and I said why? I need these and these autos and I am buying them! and they could be in there Tongue

Totally up to you, I duno what a box would be worth to you later, are you gonna keep it sealed forever? maybe worth a fortune later on down the road may not be.. who knows, it all depends on a few things one of them being the hobbit.

your call Smiley

either way whatever you decide is the wrong choice, you should have sent it to me already Smiley jk Smiley

wouldnt get something I dont got already? Tongue I was looking for a box just to play around with, I havent open cards in a long while, OCA( opening cards anon ) has helped me I am still going to meetings but i want to open !! If I were to get a box and say I pulled a auto.. hmm lets say frodo, I would personally burn it for all the trouble that little hobbit caused me! no seriously I would keep a pack pulled auto anyday over a bought one, except the case of one auto Tongue

The hobby set would be so easy to get really, but then you look at retail and retail boxes are easy to get besideds one! and like you said I havent seen one in foreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeever! even sealed update boxes arent as comman as before as people pull the costume and sell packs.

I would say if you want one of every box hold onto it. it is a tough call and easier for me to say open it then keep it but then again you could have a good or bad box there, or what about a hot box?!

now I know I have been no help at all, I wrote a book and you are all thinking wtf!?
Sorry  ROFL!

Thanks for the advice Smiley

I was surprised at how *cheap* I got it for given that the last 2 in the PG were for $300+ so it might be worth the gamble. Like Joanna, I have an allergy to sealed boxes. For me it's like - what's the point? Topps made these boxes to be opened... what use are they sealed (except to sell in the future... but there is no guarantee they will go up in price!)?

And yeah - theres almost no chance of getting a master set of sealed boxes anyway and I don't fancy paying through the nose for a FOTR retail box if it does come up cos I already have the auto I want most from that set already! And if I DID open the box and found nothing, I think I would trade in all my cards and give up the hobby Wink

If only there were hotboxes... I wouldn't even have this issue! That's why I'm not going ot buy PoA original boxes to 'keep sealed' cos I know I will crack easily Grin

If you come across a spare FOTR Frodo, don't set it on fire - send it my way - it will save the cost of that match and I'll pay for postage Wink

So what card was in the box or is it still sealed? The suspense is killing me.
