hey everyone, Just noticed lots have been said about in my absence,lol.

Just started a new account purely for buying so i did have several items bought already without the sellers leaving feedback. I would have bid higher but i was slightly deceived by the fact that beatles only put one bid down. Congrats anyway. I was already in serious trouble after buying a COS master set so this would really have put me in trouble!

hi people,

i was reading through the pear tree leaves subject and came across the unnumbered PTL discussion and looked through the links to see what you all thought of it.  I can confirm the card did get sold on ebay for $620 and believe it or not it did arrive in the post and i have in my POA binder with the rest of the set.  i remember getting an email asking about the numbers for your list and i have seen my reply posted.

i took the card to one of the memorabilia shows at the NEC in Birmingham and showed it to Darren from cards inc and also Richard from card vault.  i also emailed artbox and they seemed very interested in where i got the card from.  i asked them if i could send it to them for numbering  
didn't think so either, and haven't heard back since. 

The card is spot on and exactly the same as all the other prop cards.  it is just missing the number in the bottom corner.  it does have the space where the number should be as you can see the matt finish as opposed to the glossy finish.  i don't believe it to be a copy but it just appears it didn't get numbered.  i did read that someone said it was packed pulled?? possibly stuck with another card so it would have missed the numbering process.  you could probably go on all day about possibles though.

i think i might email artbox again - what does anyone think?
also, could i call my set a true master set with this card??

Well I have read all kinds of speculation where the card came from.....I would lean more towards the card was made as a test or proof, some people even tried to say it was a fake...the theory that the card was "missed in the stamping seems highly unlikely being there was only 30 to be stamped

In my books you do......it goes with the territory...as in could you resell the card although it being an unnumbered card ?

I think if it's genuine (a test/proof/whatever) you can 100% call it a master set. And a very interesting one at that. If you know it to be the same as all the others, and if Richard Card_Vault and Darren could see no flaws then it must be fine.

Paul - you took one he!! of a risk with that PTL card, you really did, so it's good to know it checks out favourably with the other prop cards you have and the fact that both Richard and Darren thought it genuine too is very encouraging (cos we all know how particular they are with their cards! LOL). 
I remember the original fuss and to-do over your card and I think many of us were very tempted to bid on it but were put off from doing so because of the doubt surrounding the card's legitimacy and authenticity, so thank you very much for coming forward and telling us about it first hand.
I would definitely say you had a Master Set and a very unique one too ... as for Artbox, well you asked them about it before and they weren't too bothered about it, but it begs the question - if they'd said 'yes, please return it for numbering' what would you have done? Returned it? And what number would be put on the card - would they decide that or would you request a number out of 30?
The list Thomas has collated shows that we know where a good proportion of cards are and there aren't many numbers left to choose from (if any!) - my bet is Artbox have decided not to pursue it any further with regard to numbering your card Paul and I seriously doubt we'll ever find out exactly how that card came to be in the public domain. 

Thomas - guess you need to add Paul's name to the bottom of your list .... if that's agreeable to you of course Paul?

if i had sent the card to artbox i would of been a bit cautious, as at the time i was wondering if they would have kept it and not sent it back.  i still have the replies from artbox and this is what was said:

i purchased this card from Sky High Comics through ebay on 22 october.  thier email is skyhigh@skyhighcomics.com.  they have a store in Temecula (951) 699-1125 and San Marcos (760) 471-0448. 

they said they spoke with reps from artbox at the san-diego comic con who said the card was not fake, but authentic as there is a space for the numbering on the back where other cards have thiers. the guy from sky high said your reps  spoke with the manufacturer who said the card should have been desrtoyed, but wasn't.  apparently this is the only non-destroyed card like this.

so is this card #31??

All of our pear tree cards were produced and distributed numbered to 30 only.  Unfortunately, the card you are holding is not authentic and cannot be numbered.

so there last reply was on dec 29th 2004. it doesn't seeem that long ago!!!

as you can read they said cos it was not numbered is not authentic :'(  but i suppose they would have to say that as it was not numbered.  it would be really good if anyone knows anyone at artbox or has contacts to maybe pry some more info.  i know this has been talked about before as i saw the posts, but have only recently come across the shack. although not HP cards. that was my first set that got me collecting (POA) then have got all the others since. except COS, have only got 2 and 5 case incentives at the moment.  need to recover from MM!! and reading what everything thinks of coallation and insert ratios i think i will not be buying cases but just cards of 
 when i get home i will post some pics of the PTL card.
so there is possible 31 PTL cards around.

You're in the list now. And i think, your card is authentic. So i would call your set a Master Set. There must have been any kind of mistake with your card. Maybe it's one of the 30, maybe it's number 31, who knows?

Thanks for posting the emails you received/sent to Artbox, they're very interesting ....
What intrigues me, is the immediate response from Artbox to your query stating that the unnumbered card isn't authentic because of the lack of number and as soon as you tell them exactly who and where you purchased the card from, they clam up! 
My own personal opinion is that Artbox knew this already but wanted confirmation from a 3rd party and I also believe the card to be genuine and I think what could have happened was that it was included in with the other cards either deliberately or by mistake when the inserts were collated into the packs.
The fact that you put the onus squarely back into the Artbox court and their lack of response speaks volumes to me! 
I know I wouldn't return the card to Artbox if it were mine as there's every chance it wouldn't be returned to you ... better to be cautious when you get such an unhelpful and curt reply to your email I think ... and I'd definitely hang on to all the correspondence you have regarding this card in case it's legitimacy is called into question at some point in the future.
As for contacting them again ... well, that's entirely up to you. I can understand why you would - to get peace of mind that it's a 'proper' card, but then again, the fact that nobody has thought to give you any kind of reply after 2+ years is awful customer service, wouldn't you agree? 
It was definitely their responsibility to send you a reply ... I dunno Paul ... I can just see an enormous can of worms being opened over this that's all. 
It would be nice if they owned up and admitted they'd made an error over the numbering of this card and that in fact, there are 31 of them instead of 30.

Everything is spot on, just no number in the space where it should be. hopefully you can see the matte finish on the number space against the gloss of the rest of the card.

I'd be worried half to death at having a card that rare and expensive so 'owning' it for few hours seems a great idea to me!
