That's a funny size 8 x 10.

In the US, 8x10 inches is a standard photo size.

Did you see in the description, it says it's "unknown" whether it's an original or a reprint!  Just goes to show what people can do with a scanner and a printer.

Well as far as any LOTR (or any for that matter) autograph card collector is concerned, auto cards usually are not 8x10 and do not come framed and matted

And if anyone can find me a FOTR Legolas for a $35 BIN - I'll take 10!

That's so not believable. At least most sellers try to take the trouble to make their item seem believeable. This has got to be a new record for non-believeability of the item's authenticity.
But reprint or original unknown? Now there's a sure way to get bids

Looks like he took a photo of the Legolas Auto card and enlarged it.  That is a new one on me as I have not seen anyone else on ebay do this to the Topps LOTR's Auto cards.  I'll bet this is going to give ideas to others!

From memory the auction was pulled off by ebay - the seller was bombarded with questions about whethe the cards were real or not and I don't know, maybe someone sent a message to Topps about it.

My memory of the details is sketchy - does anyone else know what I am talking about?

I do remember that. I don't remember what happened, but I think someone had bid on it at some point (there are plenty of idiots out there). I think it was pulled--as it should have been!
It was advertised as a master set for FOTR but the price was quite low obviously. But that was explained as soon as you saw it was for copies of the cards, not the originals.  
Very, very bizarre. I'm not sure of the logic behind it--can't afford the real ones so get copies? Just doesn't make sense.
Just goes to show there are some very, erm, creative sellers out there...

It would be very easy to enlarge it on a color copier to 8x10 size.  In fact I should bring an auto card to work and do it just for kicks.  If you put it on a glossy stock it would prob look fairly nice.  

Reminds me of a seller I bought a "poster" from of a LOTR ad for the oscars with Aragorn and Arwen.  I was very excited to get it (about $18) and was thinking of framing it with a Arwen and Aragorn auto in the frame....but I got the "poster" in the mail and it was a copy of the ad.   And a crappy copy at that.  If I had the ad I could have done a much nicer one on a color copier at work.   Looked like they went to Kinko's and made a bunch of color copies and sold them.  Believe me this seller was selling enough of these "posters" that they were making a decent living of a $1 copy out of a magazine.

I emailed them to say it was a crap copy and I was very PO'd and they refunded my auction.  So I didn't leave them negative feedback but beware of sellers selling "posters" of LOTR ads.  Don't do it.
